You must be having some awesome silver jewellery pieces in your collection. It is very important keep this jewellery with care. Here are some tips to take care and clean your silver jewellery.
You can avoid the tarnishing of your precious jewellery by simply wearing it more often. The oils of your body keep it clean.
Contact with household chemicals, perspiration, rubber, chlorinated water, or any substances which contain sulfur (e.g., mayonnaise, eggs, mustard, onions, latex, wool), will cause corrosion and tarnish.
Even lotions, hairsprays and perfumes are harmful for silver.
Take it off
Do take off your silver pieces of jewellery while going out in sunlight or while going for swimming or sunbathing.
You should always store your silver jewellery in airtight plastic bags because exposure to air tarnishes it. Don’t store multiple jewellery pieces in the same bag. The storage should have a low humidity level. You can also place a piece of chalk, a packet of activated charcoal, or a container of silica gel in the storage area to minimize tarnish.
A little tarnish would go away with simple polishing. Polishing is best for oxidized silver.
Olive oil and lemon juice
You can clean your jewellery at home by a mixture of 1/2 cup lemon juice with 1 tsp. olive oil in a bowl large enough to hold the cleaning solution and a small microfiber cloth.
Baking soda and water
Instead, make a paste of baking soda and water and use a clean cloth to apply a pea-sized amount to the silver and polish.
